On the 20th July QuotedData hosted a webinar entitled “Covid-19 – Impact on Markets”. The webinar provided both professional and private investors access to 3 investment company managers covering either specific geographic regions or investment sectors. The managers discussed their funds and shared their views on the potential changes for their investment area following the pandemic and answered the audiences questions.

James Thom, Aberdeen New Dawn

Investment manager on the Asian Equities Team. James joined Aberdeen in 2010 from Actis, the emerging markets Private Equity firm, based in Singapore and covering Southeast Asia. James graduated with an MBA from INSEAD, an MA from Johns Hopkins University and a BSc from University College London.

Joe Bauernfreund, AVI Global Trust/AVI Japan Opportunity Trust

Joe Bauernfreund  is the CEO and CIO of Asset Value Investors as well as the portfolio manager of AVI Global Trust and AVI Japan Opportunity Trust. He worked closely with the two previous managers of AGT and was co-manager prior to taking over as the sole named manager in 2015 and then launched AJOT in 2018.  Joe runs high conviction portfolios of 25-35 stocks and is active in speaking to the Boards and management of the investee companies to unlock value for shareholders.  He joined AVI in July 2002 as an Investment Analyst, following completion of a Masters in Finance from the London Business School.

Dean Orrico, Middlefield Canadian Income

Dean Orrico is President and Chief Investment Officer of Middlefield Capital Corporation and Chairman of Middlefield Group Limited (Middlefield) and has been employed by Middlefield since 1996. Mr. Orrico is responsible for overseeing the ongoing management of all of Middlefield’s investment funds including TSX-listed funds, mutual funds and resource flow-through funds, and is lead manager of Middlefield’s healthcare and real estate strategies. Mr. Orrico is an MBA graduate of the Schulich School of Business (York University).
